EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING COACHING
Executive functioning is a set of mental processes that help you get things accomplished, enabling us to plan, focus attention, remember important information, and manage multiple tasks. Executive function can be viewed as the “air traffic control” or “conductor” of all skills.
Our academic coaching team is comprised of social workers, former school counselors, school administrators and early childhood, elementary, middle and high school teachers. These diverse backgrounds provide a dynamic support model for our clients. Using best practice methods and a strong team approach, our coaches and therapists work together to develop and implement plans to support you and your family.
Academic Support and Intervention:
TBT coaches address the academic, vocational, emotional, and interpersonal difficulties that arise due to challenges with executive functioning, ADHD, and other learning disabilities. Through individualized or small group support, TBT coaches assist clients with identifying where they are now, where they want to go, and how to get there. In partnership, our coaches assist individuals in carrying out the practical activities of daily life in an organized, goal-oriented and timely fashion.
For children and adolescents:
Executive Functions make up the control center of our brain, helping us navigate through life with goal directed actions. Strengthening your child’s Executive Functions during their youth can help with long-term academic, career, and personal success. Our “EF” skills are developed and strengthened as we learn how to organize, plan, limit distractions, and initiate tasks day-to-day. TBT’s Executive Functioning Skill Building Workshops are designed to help your student achieve and maintain success in their academic and personal lives.
Executive Functioning Workshops are offered in 8-week series as private or group sessions. Students will receive a comprehensive Executive Functioning assessment, tailored weekly EF development, and practice pairing newly formed skills with current course work. Strategies to support goal setting, organization, task initiation, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, emotional regulation, self-monitoring, and memory recall are strengthened upon during each appointment. Student tutoring and pre and post consultations for parents to explore goals and evaluate progress are also offered.
Building our children’s “toolbox” or resources as a child and adolescent prepares them for the skills they will need as they transition into young adulthood.
What happens when your executive functions don’t work properly?
Someone with poor Executive Functions may present problems in the following areas:
- Difficulty implementing new behaviors
- Inability to use operative strategies
- Limited productivity and creativity, which is associated with poor cognitive flexibility
- Difficulty anticipating the consequences of their actions, which is related to impulsiveness
TBT academic and ADD/ADHD coaches work collaboratively with their clients to address specific needs and personal/academic goals providing an intervention that complements medication and other non-pharmacological alternatives. TBT coaches address the academic, vocational, emotional, and interpersonal difficulties that arise due to challenges with executive functioning, ADHD, and other learning disabilities.

In partnership, our coaches assist individuals with ADHD and other learning challenges in carrying out the practical activities of daily life in an organized, goal-oriented and timely fashion.
