Originally from Los Angeles, Michael moved to the Mountain West to pursue a degree in Recreation Therapy in Eastern Idaho, later earning his Master’s in Social Work from Brigham Young University. During his studies, he discovered a passion for supporting at-risk youth and families. Michael’s therapeutic career began with the ANASAZI Foundation, where he worked as a trail guide and youth counselor in a wilderness therapy setting. He went on to serve as a Recreation Therapist at Heritage Schools, developing and leading their high-adventure therapeutic program. He later worked as an individual and family therapist at Oxbow Academy and Novitas Academy. In addition to his clinical work, Michael is also an AMGA-certified climbing instructor and enjoys integrating outdoor adventure into the therapeutic process.
Michael has experience working with anxiety, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), attachment issues, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), Attention-Deficity Hyperacitivity Disorder (ADHD), substance and sexual addiction, trauma, and relationship challenges. His approach draws from a wide range of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Trauma-Focused CBT, and Sand Tray Therapy. He believes in meeting clients with empathy and confidence while addressing both internal healing and environmental factors.
Outside of the office, Michael is a proud dad of two girls and enjoys adventuring with his family. Together, they love running ultramarathons, backpacking, biking, canyoneering, climbing, and spending time in the mountains.
